Should i-Ready be implemented in schools?
Nowadays, many schools are starting to use and implement technology into education. I-Ready is one of many sites that some schools are trying out. This site is like an online tutor. First, you have to take an adaptive diagnostic. Then, i-Ready identifies the struggles and strong points of a student. Finally, it sets a course of improvement for that student. But is i-Ready really worth it?
A few good reasons to use i-Ready are that one, it adapts to the skills and weak points of a student. When somebody takes the i-Ready diagnostic, “Data from the adaptive Diagnostic informs and places students into the appropriate RTI tiers”. Another good reason to implement iReady is that it shows the teacher what the student is struggling with so they know what to teach. Teachers can go onto the i-Ready site and see how to student is doing. There are also some reasons not to use iReady.
One reason to not use i-Ready is that it doesn’t have a timer. I-Ready is an online tutor that uses time to track weekly progress. Therefore, for a site like this, a timer on the screen is preferably needed. I-Ready does not have this. Another reason that i-Ready should not be used is because sometimes it can glitch and not let the user click on the ‘next’ button. This has happened to me several times and sometimes is the reason that I do not get all of my 45 minutes in.
There are many different reasons to use or not to use i-Ready. Does one drastically outweigh the other? No, but there are certainly many advantages and disadvantages this site has.
